(9:40 a.m. EDT) — Musician Pitbull, aka Armando Christian Perez, “Mr. 305” and “Mr. Worldwide,” will serve as godfather for Norwegian Escape, Norwegian Cruise Line’s newest and biggest ship. A departure from the traditionally female role of cruise ship godmother, Pitbull will be the honorary guest and headline performer at Escape’s christening November 9.
“Pitbull has been an excellent partner and great friend to Norwegian Cruise Line,” said Andy Stuart, president of Norwegian Cruise Line. “A Miami native, he epitomizes and contributes to the energy, excitement and local flavor that our ships so proudly embody and we’re excited to build upon our relationship and have him serve in this special role as godfather to Norwegian Escape.”
When it launches, Norwegian Escape will be the largest ship to homeport out of Miami.
Introduced at last year’s christening ceremony for Norwegian Getaway, Pitbull’s branded Voli vodka will return to Escape with fun signature cocktails including the “Dale” and the “Mr. Worldwide.”
When Norwegian Escape debuts in November, it will feature dining inspired by island musician and lifestyle guru Jimmy Buffett, restaurants from Iron Chef Jose Garces, new family facilities, two Broadway shows and one of the most expansive ropes course and water parks at sea.
