(11 a.m. EDT) — Norwegian Cruise Line’s largest ship — Norwegian Escape — arrived in Southampton, U.K. today (October 27th).
The 4,200 passenger ship — the first in the line’s ‘Breakaway Plus’-class — arrived from Germany for two one-night sailings before it sets sail for its year-round homeport of Miami on Thursday.
Today the ship will set sail around the Isle of Wight with paying guests, including and Norwegian Cruise Line senior executives and Cruise Critic U.K. competition winners.
Tomorrow, the ship will do the same itinerary, but with travel agents, media and ‘The Escape Squad’ — a group of handpicked celebrities who will act as ambassadors for the ship.
Each will concentrate on one aspect of the ship, and they include Blue Peter presenter Helen Skelton who will showcase the sports facilities; Entertainer and TV personality Louie Spence who will showcase the entertainment; food blogger Niamh Shields, who will write about the food onboard; teenage blogger Lewis Nunn who will write about the family offerings and Sarah Vince, a U.K. travel agent.
The ship sets sail for Miami on Thursday (Oct 29), where a christening ceremony will take place presided over by musician and godfather Pitbull on November 9.
Norwegian Escape will then sail a variety of Caribbean itineraries for the season, including the British Virgin Islands and the Bahamas.
10 Things You Can Only Do on Norwegian Escape
The ship is a similar design to the Breakaway class of ships, but with a number of new features including a number of new restaurants. These include Margaritaville in partnership with Jimmy Buffett; Bayamo, a Latin- inspired venue from Iron Chef Jose Garces; The District Brew House, a craft beer hall and gastropub; and Norwegian’s first wine bar: The Cellars, a Michael Mondavi Family Wine Bar.
Shows and entertainment consist of two Broadway productions: “Million Dollar Quartet” and “After Midnight,” along with “For the Record: The Brat Pack,” an ’80s-themed dinner theater show.
Stay tuned for our coverage of the inaugural festivities in Europe and then in Miami on November 9.
