Regardless of whether you’re going on a long-haul flight to an exotic location or just packing up your car and hitting the road for the weekend, you can count on a classic weekender bag to take you there. These bags are designed to be just the right size to pack your bare essentials – no more, no less. So here’s what goes into the art of travelling with a weekender bag only (plus a giveaway!)
Bag: Maxwell Scott Bags; Gloves & Beanie: black.co.uk; How to Be a Parisian; Little Black Book: Paris
I don’t really need to plead the case for the weekender bag, but I will anyway. In my opinion, weekender bags are the ideal size for a getaway of up to 5 days. They force you to pack only what you need and no more, and allow you to travel with only carry-on luggage if heading overseas, or to grab a bag by the handles for a road trip getaway, instead of slugging your suitcase up a flight of stairs or along a pebbled drive way (we’ve all been there).
This Maxwell Scott weekender bag is my absolute go-to for trips of under 5 days. Any longer than that and I’ll usually pack a carry-on suitcase for trips of up to 10 days, and beyond that I’m a check-in luggage kinda girl. These bags are a luxury investment item, but once you have one in your wardrobe you won’t want to reach for anything else. Not only are they stylish, but extremely practical… and since MS bags are soon to arrive in Australia, we’ve teamed up for a little giveaway (see the end of this post!)
Don’t overpack: the weekender bag is about forcing yourself to find the balance between what you do and don’t need for your weekender bag. It is not too small but not too big, so remember what goes in must come out!
Don’t forget a good book: a weekend getaway essential.
Whether you fold, roll, or throw it all in… its all going in one way or the other (don’t be afraid to pack in under 5 seconds and call it a talent).
Use a smaller compartment for important bits and pieces to ensure safekeeping.
Place your change of clothes in the bag first, followed by your gadgets and bits and pieces you will need first.
Take a separate bag for snacks and drinks to place inside the car or mode of transport. Then place your weekender in the boot and hit the road.
Place cosmetics in a smaller bag to separate from garments in case of spillage and for easier access.
