(11:00 a.m. GMT) — P&O Cruises’ new ship Britannia will play host to a new TV series starting next year — Battlechefs.
The Watch Channel will screen the show, which features 10 celebrities with a foodie background who compete against each other onboard and in port.
Long-time P&O Cruises’ chef Marco Pierre White will be the judge of the series, which airs in March. The show features celebrities “with foodie credentials” and includes Alex James from Blur, Susannah Constantine of Trinny & Susannah and Keith Duffy of Boyzone.
P&O Cruises’ VP Marketing Christopher Edgington said he hoped most of the participants would be back onboard to teach in the Cookery Club onboard Britannia.
Edgington also confirmed that comedian Rob Brydon will once again star in the line’s Christmas TV ads — which will air in the break during the Downton Abbey Christmas special on Christmas Day.
Speaking at a media dinner last night (November 17) in London, Edgington said: “We are excited about this new, energetic travel and cooking programme, which will be the first at sea.
“All these celebrities were chosen for their foodie credentials and we hope they will be back to run cooking classes in the Cookery Club. This is a really good way to showcase dining and travel,” he added.
In the show Alex James referred to cruising as “rock ‘n’ roll”, Edgington revealed.
Edgington also confirmed that master patissier Eric Lanlard — one of the line’s “Food Heroes” who teaches onboard Britannia — will have his popular Afternoon Tea extended to Azura and Ventura by the end of the month in the high-end restaurant Epicurean.
And finally master chocolatier Paul A. Young has been confirmed as the latest celebrity chef to teach classes onboard Britannia.
