(12:25 p.m EST) — Royal Caribbean is charging fees for the RipCord by iFly sky diving simulator and the North Star observation capsule on Quantum of the Seas sailings on cruises leaving from Shanghai.
The attractions were previously offered free of charge. According to the Royal Caribbean website, the fees go into effect December 30, 2015. Both attractions remain free for Anthem of the Seas cruises; Anthem is based in the United States, while Quantum sails in Asia and Australia.
Some Cruise Critic members sailing Quantum in Australia say, however, that they are being charged. "It seems that RCI are as of right now, are charging for the use of North Star AUD$28.00 per go and you have to book it with very limited spots," Cruise Critic member tincoll wrote on the Royal Caribbean forum. "What’s even stranger is it seems they are charging AUD$33.28 for the 1 minute complimentary ride on the RipCord."
RoyalCaribbeanBlog.com, an independent Royal Caribbean fan blog, has posted images of the charges as advertised on the line’s Australian website. The charges are for reserving a spot; it is unclear if walk-ups on the ship will be charged as well.
