(12:50 p.m. EST) — Uniworld Boutique River Cruise Collection is making a big push for the family market this year with the launch of its first dedicated brochure.
The new brochure showcases 11 new family-friendly itineraries in 2016, cruising the Rhine, Danube, Seine and Po rivers.
The line has increased the number of family-friendly cruises this year from five to 16. In addition, children between the ages of 4 and 18 pay half-price.
Uniworld’s move was prompted by the increase in demand for multigenerational cruises over the past few years, as well as a desire from parents and grandparents to combine a fun family holiday that is also culturally immersive.
All European itineraries feature fun and interactive onboard experiences. Children can try their hand at dessert making with the ship’s pastry chef, take a VIP behind-the-scenes tour with the captain, taste local soft drinks with the resident Soda Sommelier or take part in craft workshops and fun local language classes.
The Young Travellers Lounge, available on all multigenerational Uniworld ships, has a PlayStation, a wide selection of games, movies and candy jars. Every family-friendly cruise itinerary also features onboard visits from local children or teens, who introduce guests to the daily life of their culture.
Kathryn Beadle, Managing Director of Uniworld UK, said: “A river cruise is a great way to give younger generations an insight into different cultures as they travel to new cities, quaint villages and traditional towns on a truly memorable holiday. All age groups can enjoy the leisurely pace of a Uniworld river cruise and enjoy the variety of onboard entertainment and onshore excursions which have been specially designed with families in mind.”
Parents can also go onshore and leave their children in the care of Family Hosts for Junior Cruisers (ages 4 to 11) and Young Cruisers (ages 12 to 18), who will supervise and coordinate onboard activities. Each night the child receives a special pillow gift from the destinations visited.
The 2016 multigenerational program includes six new and three existing family-friendly European sailings, each offering a selection of excursions. The itineraries are listed below:
