(9:03 a.m. EST) — Emerald Waterways will launch two new ships in 2017 — one plying France’s Rhone and Saone rivers and a second smaller ship bound for Portugal’s Douro River.
Emerald Liberté will carry 138 passengers in 70 cabins and Emerald Radiance will carry 112 passengers in 56 cabins.
The ships will launch in April 2017 and will bring the Emerald fleet to a total of seven ships.
Both ships will be slightly smaller versions of the original Emerald design — which carries 182 passengers — due to the narrower rivers they will be based on.
However, the only difference in terms of features will be on Emerald Radiance, where the pool will be on the top deck and there will be no cinema.
Emerald Liberté will have a heated pool with a retractable glass roof that transforms into a cinema in the evening.
Both ships will have four types of cabins including an expansive owners suite; two restaurants; a massage therapy room and fitness area, as well as bicycles onboard.
Liberté will operate eight day itineraries starting in Lyon and heading north along the Saone, and then south down the Rhone via Avignon and Arles.
Radiance will operate eight-day itineraries starting in Porto and heading east into Spain, including stops in Salamanca and the option of a two-day stay in Lisbon.
