(3:30 p.m. EST) — Winter storm Jonas has claimed its first cruise itinerary casualties, forcing Grandeur of the Seas and Anthem of the Seas to delay their return to port by a full day each. Jonas is bearing down on the Mid-Atlantic states with expected snowfalls of 18 to 24 inches by Sunday morning in Baltimore and the New York City metropolitan area.
Cruise Critic learned of the delays from Cruise Critic members who took to the Royal Caribbean forum to post the news.
"Just got this message from RC," wrote member Manbo: "This is Royal Caribbean International. We would like to provide you with important information regarding your upcoming sailing onboard Grandeur of the Seas. Due to Snowstorm Jonas, boarding for your cruise will be delayed by a day. Your cruise on Grandeur will now depart Baltimore on Monday, January 25. "
Anthem of the Seas will also be delayed a day, arriving back into Cape Liberty in Bayonne, New Jersey, on Tuesday, January 26 instead of Monday, January 25.
Royal Caribbean has opened the phone lines and Internet for passengers on the current Grandeur of the Seas and Anthem of the Seas sailings to assist anyone who needs to make air or hotel arrangements. The line is still working on the revised itinerary for the ships’ next sailings.
Cruise Critic has reached out to Royal Caribbean and other lines that have ships departing from affected ports for comment.
