Passengers and crew onboard Cruise & Maritime Voyages’ Magellan were treated to an incredible display of the Northern Lights earlier this week as they arrived at Honningsvag, Norway. Sailing on the Land of the Northern Lights Cruise from Tilbury, London, the ship arrived at the perfect moment to witness the Aurora Borealis, which require precise atmospheric conditions and clear, dark skies to appear.
Regent Seven Seas Cruises has appointed Captain Stanislas Gerard Jean Mercier de Lacombe captain of the line’s newest ship, Seven Seas Explorer. He will command a veteran team made up of Franck Galzy (General Manager), Aurelien Dumeylet (Executive Chef), Luca Griggi (Chief Engineer) and Ray Solair (Cruise Director), as well as nearly 550 staff and crew members. Registering at 56,000 tons and carrying just 750 passengers, the luxury Seven Seas Explorer has been dubbed “the most luxurious cruise ship in the world”.
Palo, Disney Cruise Line’s Italian $30-per-head, adults-only restaurant, will see new regional items added to its menu. The offerings include a whole roasted chicken, marinated in lemon, sea salt and rosemary, with roasted vegetables and a wine reduction; Dover sole fileted tableside, with capers, anchovies, sundried tomatoes and thyme potatoes; classic sea scallops with a Prosecco and black truffle reduction; and new desserts, including a lemon tart and tiramisu. Additionally, the restaurant will feature a new wine pairing menu, consisting of six courses, each served with a complementary wine or spirit.
Silversea has released its collection of Scuba Diving Expedition Voyages for 2016-2017. Taking place onboard the all-suite, 120-guest Silver Discoverer, launched in 2014, the 20 itineraries will visit some of the world’s most remote diving hot spots, including the Palau Archipelago and the Andaman Islands. Each itinerary also features an onboard dive master and a team of experts, including marine biologists and geologists.
Actor and singer Carlos PenaVega will welcome Broadway show Grease to Royal Caribbean’s newest ship, Harmony of the Seas, when it launches in May 2016. Best known for his portrayal of Kenickie in FOX’s Grease: Live, as well as his band Big Time Rush, PenaVega will lead special Grease-themed activities, such as teaching guests the hand jive, presiding over a dance competition and giving an exclusive performance of “Greased Lightnin'”, during inaugural events in Southampton.
