(5:45 p.m. BST) — Celebrity Cruises’ has been forced to make an unplanned itinerary change to Celebrity Eclipse to avoid a storm currently forming near Bermuda.
The 2,850-passenger ship — currently repositioning to the U.K. for its summer season — is skipping King’s Wharf and sailing straight to Lisbon, Portugal, where it will arrive a day early on April 26th.
As a result, an extra European date has been added and the ship will now stop at Paris (Le Havre), France, on April 29. It arrives in Southampton the following day, where it will stay until October.
A spokesperson for Celebrity said: «Given the weather system’s location and projected path yesterday, Celebrity Eclipse needed to modify its itinerary in order to provide guests and crew with a safe and comfortable sailing.
«Regrettably, it was necessary to cancel Celebrity Eclipse’s port call to Kings Wharf, Bermuda. Our need to make the best decisions regarding the safety and to continue the enjoyment of the cruise was based on the weather information available. There are many things we can control, but Mother Nature is not one of them.»
The itinerary change was first picked up on Cruise Critic’s members’ message boards yesterday.
