Hurtigruten Cruise Line Launches Young Explorers Programme

(3:15 p.m. BST) — In an initiative to attract more families to the cruise line, Hurtigruten has announced plans to introduce the Young Explorers Programme onboard its MS Midnatsol ship from November 2016 to March 2017.

The Young Explorers Programme will focus on environmental challenges facing the planet, featuring activities and learning opportunities, such as age-appropriate lectures and field research, for seven to 13-year-old passengers.

The educational programme will be rolled out onboard MS Midnatsol’s voyages to Antarctica, including Discover Patagonia and Antarctica and The legendary Magellan, Chilean fjords itineraries.

UK managing director of Hurtigruten Magnus Zetterberg said: “We’ve always wanted to attract families on a Hurtigruten voyage and the Young Explorers Programme is our first step in widening our current offering of exploration travel which will appeal to curious young minds.

“The clubs will be open to the whole family, not just kids, so everyone can come together to explore and learn about local nature, wildlife and culture during an Antarctica adventure. We look forward to seeing the results from the programme and how we can continue to build on it for future voyages.”

Highlights of the programme include a tailored introduction to Antarctica presentation; activities with the ship’s onboard photographer and field activities such as a re-enactment of the Amundsen party reaching the South Pole.
