(10:30 a.m. AEST) – Local celebrities have been revealed as the godmothers for the two ships joining Australia’s P&O Cruises fleet next month, and in a social media first, the ships will be officially named using Twitter.
Singer Jessica Mauboy (pictured above) and actress Kate Ritchie will name Pacific Aria and Pacific Eden by tweeting the official naming words in a dual christening ceremony on Fort Denison as the two ships sail either side of the Sydney Harbour landmark on November 25.
The naming will also be simultaneously posted on the godmothers’ Facebook and Instagram accounts and shared by P&O Cruises across its platforms.
As part of the celebrations, Mauboy is slated to headline P&O’s five-ship spectacular onboard Pacific Aria. The Veronicas will perform at the party on Pacific Eden.
Kate Ritchie is one of Australia’s best loved actresses, having spent 20 years as a lead on Home and Away, and she currently co-hosts a national radio show on Nova. Mauboy is an award-winning singer who shot to stardom in 2006 after appearing on the television show Australian Idol.
